Nancy McIntire - Biography

Nancy J. McIntire

Welcome!

Nancy McIntire grew up surrounded by the natural beauty in the heart of the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts.  She was sensitive and attune to the sights and sounds of nature and had an appreciation for the beauty of the bone structure of the trees she would climb, sparkle of the lakes and brooks she would swim and play, and the perspectives seen when hiking in the hills and woods.  Nancy uses all these memories and sensory experiences when transferring the beauty of nature onto the blank canvas—bringing it to life with color and brushstrokes. A versatile and award-winning artist, she is best known for her representational landscapes in oil featuring dramatic skies.  Described as “glowing” and “dramatic”, her paintings capture the transforming moments of the interplay of light over landscape--most especially the magical and fleeting moments of twilight.  Inspiration comes from many visual attractions—unusual perspectives, dramatic lighting, vibrant color or interesting textural qualities are all captivating reasons for her to “take on the challenge!”

For the past year, Nancy has been able to experience the beauty nature has to offer from "sea to shining sea" by maintaining a residence in California and Connecticut.  In 1978 she and husband, Bill, moved from Massachusetts to Connecticut, and they have called it home for the past 37 years.  In 2013 the birth of her baby granddaughter brought Nancy to Carlsbad, California whose beauty cast a spell on this landscape artist, and she has established a residence there. Nancy is just getting her feet wet in the California art scene, but has exhibited extensively throughout Connecticut in juried, group and solo exhibits, and won awards in the categories of oil, watercolor, printmaking, collage and others. In addition to freelance work and commissions, this artist has also devoted countless hours and her artistic talents to many community organizations and projects aimed at improving the lives of others through artistic means.  Notable achievements include developing a Children’s Craft Kit which was produced by Craft House and marketed and sold under the Barbie trademark.  Her paintings have been used for the the cover for the Reminder Gold Pages 2013/2014 , 2012 and 2009 issues, whose distribution reaches 100,000 homes and businesses in Central Connecticut.
